Healdsburg, California is stunning. With vineyards, cute farm animals, and luscious greenery all around, it is truly idyllic and so peaceful. Not to mention the adorable town gives off the same energy as the town in Gilmore Girls. The location is not all there is to love though. This small town in Northern California is home to the best sandwich that I have ever tried. Here are a couple my favorite eats in Healdsburg.
This grocery store is like if Erewhon was made for Northern California. It is so rustic and cute, and the food is so delicious. Yes, this is indeed the location of the best sandwich I have ever tried. They have many other sandwiches like their smoked salmon sandwich but this one takes it all. It is the Mt. Tam & Sky Hill Chevre sandwich. It is made on perfect crispy, toasted artisan bread and is filled with the best cheeses. There is the Mt. Tam Triple Creme Cheese, which is a very gooey, and creamy brie with mushroom undertones, and Sky Hill Chevre Cheese, which is a soft goat cheese. Finally, there is a honey butter to balance the buttery cheeses with a slightly sweet flavor. I highly recommend trying this sandwich if you are in Healdsburg because your taste buds will thank you. This sandwich will change your life. Also I recommend getting their caramel popcorn because it's so good.
The Matheson is a charming restaurant. The best dishes to me were their salads pictured below. The presentation is gorgeous, and both were shaped almost like half moons. I love the incorporation of local vegetables and how this restaurant is farm-to-table. The first salad below is the young carrots. I really liked the unexpected flavors of this dish. It was savory and sweet at the same time. The second salad below is the burrata cheese. I thought that it was so creative of them to make the croutons by frying sourdough bread. They were my favorite part of this dish. I also loved the citrus and crunchy hazelnuts. Finally, their bread came in a red pottery container and was salty and buttery.
I may be too young to drink wine, however Bricoleur Vineyards has a wonderful tasting of food as well. The first dish was a delicious rice ball with a crispy outer layer and earthy, almost sweet mushrooms. It also had a fun tofu side made to mimic octopus. The second dish I think was maybe my favorite. One part is celery root mousse which sounds strange but has the texture of burrata and is so fluffy like the ocean foam. This dish was created to make you feel as though you were right by the sea. I tried caviar for the first time, and it was actually very good. It's kind of like the popping boba if it were salty and savory. Anywho, this dish also had a piece of sea weed and a delicate cracker on top. The best part about this was the “Sonoma sand” though which was a mix of various seeds, etc. including dried quinoa etc. It was so flavorful and added so much texture. The other part of this dish was a brandade which is a potato-y dish that was very creamy. Finally, the last dish was an Ibérico pork boulette and then a squash farro with toma cheese which is a buttery cheese. The farro melts in your mouth and is flawless. The plating of everything is picturesque here. (And the vineyard is pretty gorgeous too). I had the best time savoring all these dishes with my family.
