Beefsteak. I know what you are thinking. This word has beef and steak in it so its choices must be meat-dominated. Well, surprise! The name is actually referring to the Beefsteak tomato, and the food that they serve is astonishingly all plant-based. In my opinion, this fast casual restaurant is going to change the world.
In the fast-paced world that we are living in, so many people rely on unhealthy fast food restaurants for inexpensive, quick options. However, Beefsteak is able to provide healthy food in the same measures. All of their items on their menu are under $10 and are prepared in under a minute and a half. This has the potential to completely change the way that our country eats. Beefsteak has flavorful, delectable food options that are good for our bodies and are affordable and easy for all. Not only does Beefsteak solve the fast food issue, but eating plant-based is also positively impactful for the environment. Eating plant-based saves so much water and land. Furthermore, vegetables don't produce as much CO2 (causes global warming) as meat does.
Not only is the mission of this restaurant transformative, but the atmosphere is delightful. They have playful characters of vegetables that they call "vegetables with attitude". They are so adorable and match the joyful energy of the food. The restaurant is also filled with cute signs with veggie puns such as "cauli-power". I absolutely love their decorative vegetable ceiling. When you look up you can just see rows and rows of turnips to purple and green cabbages and other veggies.
The next time that you think of getting a burger in Washington D.C., I recommend you consider trying the Beetsteak Burger or the Newman Chik'n Sandwich. The bun of the Beet Burger is buttery and soft, and the beet inside is crunchy, slightly sweet, and refreshing. The Chicken Sandwich is nostalgic tasting. The Faux Chicken amazingly tastes just like the chicken inside your current favorite meat chicken sandwich; however, it is actually made out of soy and mushroom.
Beefsteak's main dishes are their warm bowls that are colorful and springtimey, and, in my opinion, are even better than Sweetgreen's bowls (Love Sweetgreen, but Beefsteak surpasses all others). These bowls, despite being mostly vegetables and rice, are rich with flavor. We had their Rice Rice Baby bowl (fried rice, steamed broccoli and green beans, vegan kimchi, cucumber, scallions, pea shoots, poached egg, sesame seeds, furikake, crispy onions, and white miso dressing) and Carrot Curry bowl (jasmine rice, kale, black bean sauce, tomato sauce (it has a bit of a kick to it), chipotle mayo, tomatoes, edamame, onions, and crispy onions). Usually I don't like curry, but I loved this bowl. Every bite that you take has a new and exciting flavor. Both of these bowls also have so many different textures. They are so good, and I crave them daily. The ingredients that they use at Beefsteak are incredibly fresh, and that is really what takes their bowls to the next level.
Finally, I am obsessed with their delish Tractor organic juices. Their flavors are so creative and work so well with the bowls. My favorites of these juices include their berry patch, hibiscus, and strawberry dragonfruit. As we are approaching summer, these are perfect for a sunny summer day.
I highly recommend going to Beefsteak if you are in Washington D.C. You will not be disappointed. I really wish there was one everywhere because I would eat it every day if I could. It's that wonderful. Veggies truly can be delicious, and Beefsteak is a perfect example of that. It is beautiful and incredible to see how Beefsteak is able to provide plant-based dishes to everyone.
